Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Authors are advised to follow these guidelines carefully when preparing manuscripts for the Himalayan Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences. Clear structure and consistent formatting will facilitate review and production.

Submission Format

File type and basic text formatting requirements applicable to all submissions.

  • Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word format (.doc / .docx).
  • Use Times New Roman, 12 pt font throughout the manuscript.
  • Maintain consistent formatting (font, line spacing, headings, and margins) across all sections.

Required Sections of the Manuscript

All research articles should include the following components in the order listed below.

Ensure that each of the following sections is clearly identified with appropriate headings.

1 Title Page

  • Title in bold and title case.
  • Author names in UPPERCASE.
  • Author affiliations in lowercase.
  • Place an asterisk (*) after the corresponding author’s name.
  • Include full details for each author: name, designation, department, institution, location, phone number, email address, and ORCID ID.

2 Abstract

  • Use a structured format covering: objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Avoid the use of abbreviations, figures, and citations in the abstract.
  • Limit the abstract to a maximum of 250 words.

3 Keywords

  • Provide 4–6 keywords that reflect the core topics and concepts of the paper.
  • Arrange keywords in alphabetical order, separated by commas (optional but recommended).

4 Introduction

  • Provide a brief background and rationale for the study, situating it within the relevant literature.
  • Clearly state the research question or hypothesis being addressed.

5 Materials and Methods

  • Give a detailed description of materials, instruments, and procedures used in the study.
  • Provide sources (manufacturer, supplier, location) and any modifications of standard methods to allow reproducibility.
  • Where applicable, include information on experimental design, sampling, and statistical analyses.

6 Results and Discussion

  • Present findings clearly and concisely, using an appropriate sequence and subheadings where needed.
  • The Results and Discussion sections may be presented either as a combined section or as two separate sections.
  • Use tables, graphs, and figures with proper labels, legends, and captions.
  • Insert visuals at appropriate locations within the text, close to where they are first referenced.
  • Ensure all figure and table labels are in editable text format and not embedded inside images.

7 Conclusion

  • Summarise the key findings of the study succinctly.
  • Highlight the implications, relevance, and potential impact of the work.
  • Avoid introducing new data or citations that have not appeared in earlier sections.
  • You may include concise suggestions for future research or practical applications.

8 Declaration

  • Authors are required to state all competing interests, also referred to as conflicts of interest, related to their work.
  • Declarations may include financial, personal, professional, or institutional relationships that could be perceived to influence the research or its interpretation.

9 Acknowledgments (if applicable)

  • Recognise contributions, funding, or support that do not qualify for authorship.
  • Mention grant numbers, sponsoring agencies, technical assistance, or institutional support where appropriate.
